“Living in patterns, seeking out pleasure, in these four walls.

Take me back, take me back, take me back.

Tell me where I came from.”

At ease calm, relaxed, peaceful, serene… these are internal states we often seek through external comforts. From our homes. From those who care for us. Or perhaps a box full of objects that hold precious memories. These artists reach to those intimate spaces. Their works offer meditations on household dynamics, middle-class comforts, nostalgia, memory, traditions and origins. We hope that you’re able to feel at home during this exhibition…

Smelted is about changing states, not unlike smelting -the process through which a metal is made malleable and extracted from its ore. The artists involved make humorous challenges to hegemonic ideals… their self portraits are curious queries into identity… their landscapes are shifting, searching states of mind… their chairs are slipping out from under… jaws unlocked… biting…

Resonance is a collection of works that challenge our mundane here/now. Through practices rooted in research, criticism, experimentation and emotion, these works draw us into a deeper look at the tensions that define us and our surroundings. They reveal the complexities, contradictions, ebbs and flows, and histories of oppression that inform our everyday.
